Cherry City Electric was the electrical contractor on Block 38, called The Ardea, located on the South Waterfront area in Portland. It is comprised of two structures. a 30-story “point tower” with an adjacent, 4-story podium structure and a freestanding 5-story building. The unique tower has 236 apartments and the 4-story podium creates a powerful urban presence with six, 2-story garden townhomes and eight apartment flats above. The second structure is a 5-story “sidecar” building containing 33 apartments over ground level retail. This project was awarded LEED Gold status by the US Green Building Council. Cherry City installed three 2000A main services for the residential units, one 3000A service that serves the commercial metering for the first floor retail and a 750kW diesel generator that provides back-up life safety power distribution, fire pump and standby power distribution. Occupancy controls were used in the stairwells and corridors to reduce energy consumption above and beyond what was required by code. We also were responsible for the installation of the telecom (copper and fiber optic risers and CAT 5 wiring), fire alarm, security and CCTV systems.
