Cherry City Electric Receives 2009 Contractor Safety Award

The Oregon-Columbia Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) recently presented Cherry City Electric with the 2009 Contractor Safety Award. Of 125 Oregon-Columbia Chapter members, NECA and IBEW chose Cherry City as the recipient of the award for “outstanding safety performance in the electrical industry.” The Contractor Safety Award was also presented to Cherry City Electric in 2002. Dan Freeburg, Cherry City’s Safety Manager, commented, “Safety is a top value of our company. We believe in sending workers home in good health after every day of work.” Starting in February 2008, Cherry City required all of its foremen to complete a 30 hour safety training course offered by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). Early in 2009, Cherry City required its new hire wiremen to take the OSHA 30 hour training also. As a result of the training courses and Cherry City Electric’s aggressive safety culture, the company’s recordable injury rate for employees is one third of the electrical industry average.
